CBD oils for cancer patients

Cancer patients often undergo treatments that come with terrible side effects. Nausea, loss of appetite, fatigue, mental fog and pain are all very common.

Ongoing research on CBD oil shows that it can help lessen the severity of some of these side effects, and it may even help slow or stop cancer growth.

CBD Oil Slows the Growth of Cancer

Of all of the studies on CBD oil, the ones that prove its efficacy at slowing or even halting the growth of certain types of cancers are by far the most promising. The cannabinoids in CBD oil have been shown to stop cancers of the breast, brain, and liver from growing, and it can even completely halt the progression of diseases like melanoma and leukemia in some cases. It does this by binding to receptors within the cancer cells that allow them to invade other healthy cells, which is how they reproduce.

Improves Nausea and Loss of Appetite

One side effect of conventional cancer treatments is nausea and loss of appetite. Scientists think that cannabinoid receptors in the body play a vital role in our desire to eat and feeding behaviour. For this reason, when the cannabinoids in CBD oil bind with those receptors, they essentially make patients feel hungry. These same studies have shown that CBD also significantly reduces the occurrence of nausea and vomiting in cancer patients.

Reduces Pain

CBD oil can help treat pain associated with cancer in two different ways. First, it’s an anti-inflammatory agent that can help reduce swelling throughout the body, which can allow for significant pain relief and improved comfort. Second, it binds to certain receptors in the body called CB1 receptors; these are thought to play a role in receiving pain signals from the nerves. When these receptors are filled with CBD, they cannot receive as many pain signals from the nerves, thus providing relief to the patient.

Improves Mood and Quality of Sleep

Many cancer patients find themselves stressed out, anxious, and unable to sleep. A 2011 study on patients dealing with Seasonal Affective Disorder, or SAD, proved that people who used CBD to treat their anxiety fared far better than those who received a placebo. Because of improvements in their mood, they were able to sleep better, and they even felt more alert and focused during the day. similar results have been reported in cancer patients.
